Over 100 Somali MPs Sign Motion to Remove Speaker Aden Madoobe

More than 100 members of the House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia have signed a motion seeking the removal of the Speaker of the House, Aden Mohamed Nur (Aden Madoobe), from office.

The motion accuses the Speaker of violating the Constitution and the House’s rules of procedure, and of mismanaging the affairs of the House, which the lawmakers say has obstructed the legislative process.

The MPs who signed the motion stated that they took this step after the Speaker repeatedly violated parliamentary rules and openly aligned himself with the Presidency.

They added that the time for the House to adjourn had already arrived, but Aden Madoobe wanted the House to remain open unlawfully for an additional month and a half in order to push through constitutional amendments, a move they described as illegal.

Today, Wednesday, the Parliament was scheduled to receive the plan for amending Chapters 5 through 9 of the Constitution. This led to chaos and disorder within the House, bringing proceedings to a standstill. However, later on, videos and photos were posted on the Parliament’s official Facebook page claiming that today’s session had concluded successfully and that MPs had been distributed the agenda for the day. It was also stated that in the coming days, the House will begin deliberations on the constitutional amendments to Chapters 5 through 9.
