Abdullahi Abdi Hussein (Muscab), a former manager of the College of Health in Qabri-Dahar town in Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, has handed over 30 million Ethiopian birr—equivalent to about USD 162,000—to religious scholars in the region, saying the money had been obtained improperly during his tenure as manager.
The assets transferred by Muscab include his former residence, a warehouse, vacant land or plots, and shares in business ventures he owned.
He stated that all the assets have been designated as waqf (charitable endowments) to be used for health and education facilities in the cities of Jijiga, Qabri-Dahar, and Dire Dawa.
Muscab added that the assets were acquired during the period when the Somali Regional State was governed by former president Abdi Mohamoud Omar (Abdi Iley), who was later removed from office.
