The US Department of Defense has suspended the delivery of some weapons
The US Department of Defense has suspended the delivery of some weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, amid concerns that the US military stockpile could be depleted, leaving it vulnerable to a domestic defense capability in the event of an unexpected crisis in the United States or elsewhere critical to US national security interests.
The move follows an order from US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who weeks ago called for an urgent review of US weapons stockpiles. Among the weapons being held back: Patriot surface-to-air missiles and thousands of Howitzer shells.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said: “This decision demonstrates the US government’s commitment to protecting our national security. We need to ensure that we have sufficient reserves to respond to any unforeseen threat. American interests are our top priority.”
