Explosive-Laden Vehicles Destroyed in Airstrike on An Al-Shabaab’s Weapon Depots Facility, Says Somali Government

The Federal Government of Somalia has confirmed conducting targeted airstrikes on locations believed to be used by the Al-Shabaab militant group in the town of Aadan Yabaal, located in the Middle Shabelle region.

According to an official government statement, the strikes specifically hit sites in the Howlwadaag neighborhood of Aadan Yabaal, resulting in casualties and the destruction of key Al-Shabaab facilities.

The government noted that the targeted compounds were being used by the militant group to prepare vehicles for combat and store weapons stockpiles. One of the sites reportedly contained vehicles rigged with explosives at the time of the strike.

“One of the targeted facilities was seen engulfed in flames following a precise operation, and intelligence reports confirm it housed vehicles loaded with explosive materials,” the statement said.

The government emphasized that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s operational infrastructure and weaken its logistical capabilities.

This latest strike comes just days after a previous air operation targeted another Al-Shabaab facility in Aadan Yabaal, underscoring the government’s intensified campaign against the group in central Somalia.

The Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with international partners, has stepped up operations in recent months to push militants out of key areas and disrupt their planning and attack capabilities.
